Traveling with Children
For international travel,
all infants/babies, children, and minors must have a valid passport
and comply with immigration requirements of the destination country.
In some countries, infants/babies may need a reference on a parent’s
passport. Check with Air Tahiti Nui, your travel arranger, or the
consulate of the countries visited.
Infants Under 2 years:
Children under the age of 2, and accompanied by an adult guardian, may travel on an infant fare when not occupying a seat. A child traveling on an infant fare must be held by the accompanying adult guardian. For safety reasons an adult can hold only one infant.
An adult traveling with more than one infant is required to reserve a seat for the additional infant. A child’s fare is payable (available for children under 12 years of age).
Infants traveling in a reserved seat must be restrained in an approved infant car seat, provided the child does not exceed the weight limit for the restraint system of the car seat.
The car seat must have its own inbuilt restraint system and be of a type approved for use in motor vehicles.
Bassinets:
Our A340-300 aircraft are equipped with bassinets which are designed for use of infants aged up to 8 months old and not exceeding 14kg’s in weight.
Each aircraft has only a limited number of bassinet positions, and we strongly recommend you request a bassinet when making your booking. Final seat assignment is handled by airport staff, on the day of your flight. Bassinet availability cannot be guaranteed.
Children under 5 years:
Children under the age of 5 must be escorted by a guardian/companion 18 years or older.
Accompanied Children Aged between 2 and 11 years:
Children aged between 2 and 11 accompanied by an adult may qualify for child fares, depending on the fare types available at the time of booking.
Unaccompanied Children Aged 5 to 14 years:
A child aged between 5 and 14 years old may travel alone as an unaccompanied minor on any available adult fare type, provided the child does not require additional care such as toileting, feeding or administering of medicine.
An Unaccompanied Minor form should be requested from Air Tahiti Nui at the time of booking. The completed form must be presented by an Adult Guardian at the time of check-in for each flight.
Minimum check-in time for children traveling alone is at least 2 hours prior to departure.
Unaccompanied Minor Travel Procedure:
A child travelling as an Unaccompanied Minor will be escorted by airline staff through the passport control and security screening process, and to the departure gate. At the departure gate the Unaccompanied Minor is escorted onto the aircraft, introduced to the cabin crew who then assist the child to their seat.
Supervision and assistance will also be provided if your child is making connecting flights on the same day*. On arrival at destination, the child will be escorted from the aircraft, through the arrival formalities and handed to the guardian you have nominated at the arrival airport.
In order that we can take the best possible care of your child, you will need to provide information including contact details of guardians at both ends of the journey and for any person meeting your child at stopover points. Please contact us for the Unaccompanied Minor form so that it can be completed before travel.
*Note this service may not be available on a complimentary basis at some airports, such as Los Angeles.
NOTE: It is the responsibility of all travelers to ensure they are in possession of correct documentation to exit and enter the countries ticketed on their itinerary. Most countries now require all children and infants to possess their own passport. In addition other certificates may be required. Always check with the consulate of the country you are traveling from and to prior to departure.
Before Leaving:
Besides their passports, prepare a bag with everything your children may need during the flight (pullover, medicine, books, etc...)
Minimum check-in time for children traveling alone is at least 2 hours prior to departure.
Children's Meals:
Special Children’s meals are available and must be requested at the time of booking.
You're welcome to bring your own snacks for children. Please note that our Cabin Crew are not permitted to handle, refrigerate, heat or add water to any food you bring on board. Please remember that it is a requirement that food taken on board must be disposed of prior to landing in another country, due to quarantine regulations.
Groups of Children:
Groups of children may be accepted for travel, subject to prior notification and confirmation by Air Tahiti Nui. We require a minimum of one adult for every 12 children traveling.
Booking Online:
Unaccompanied Minor fares cannot be booked online. Please contact Air Tahiti Nui or your travel agent.
